LLANES

The town of Llanes, the capital of the municipality and located 17 km from El Cueto de los Collado, offers attractions such as Sablón Beach, the Paseo de San Pedro along the cliffs, and the Memory Cubes, a work by artist Agustín Ibarrola. Its old town, with its walls, medieval tower, narrow streets, shops, and nightlife, is also worth a visit.

The municipality has more than 30 fine sandy beaches, each one unique, which is one of its greatest attractions. Llanes has also been the setting for numerous films and series, such as The Orphanage, The Lady, and Grandfather.

RIBADESELLA

The town of Ribadesella is located 10 km from “El Cueto de los Collado”. Its port, its promenade full of terraces, restaurants and cider houses where you can sample the local cuisine, the old town or the 2 km promenade that runs parallel to Santa Marina Beach (at the end you can see some dinosaur ignitas, formed during the Jurassic), make this town a must-see.

On Wednesdays, there’s a local market worth visiting, where you can find all kinds of local products, among other things. Ribadesella is famous for being the finish line of the International Sella Descent, which takes place every year on the first Saturday in August.

CUEVA DEL TITO BUSTILLO

Located in the town of Ribadesella, on one of the banks of the Sella River, it is one of the great sanctuaries of Paleolithic art in Europe. It forms part of a network of interconnected caves belonging to the same limestone formation, into which other grottos temporarily inhabited by prehistoric man open up.

Currently, they are only open six months a year (approximately from April to September). They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and admission is free on Wednesdays. We recommend booking tickets as far in advance as possible, as limited capacity makes them difficult to obtain.

LA CUEVONA

It is one of the few remaining examples of a road passing through a cave.
It is located 7 km from Ribadesella, in the village of Cuevas del Agua. The inhabitants of this village were cut off from road traffic, and could only access it via a narrow path through this cave. Over time, this cave was opened up to road traffic.

Driving through it, along its nearly 400 meters, is an experience. At the end, there’s a parking lot where you can leave your car and walk deeper into the cave, where remains of stalactites, stalagmites, and more still remain.

BUFONES DE PRÍA

Stretching almost 50 km from the border with Cantabria, a cycle-pedestrian path runs along the coast, allowing cyclists and hikers to enjoy the scenery. From Villanueva de Pría, a section of this path leads to the impressive Bufones de Pría, also accessible by car from “El Cueto de los Collado” (just 3 km away).

Blowholes are natural chimneys in the cliffs where, during high tide and strong waves, the sea throws up columns of water up to 20 meters high with a great roar. The most impressive, the “Bramadoriu,” can be heard for miles. It is recommended to keep your distance for safety due to the force of the water.

COVADONGA

Covadonga is one of the most iconic places in Asturias, both for its spiritual and historical significance. In its cave, carved into the rock, rests the image of Santina, the patron saint of the region, above an impressive waterfall that forms a lagoon where visitors throw coins as a symbol of wish or promise.

Access to the grotto is via a staircase of 101 steps, frequented by pilgrims and devotees. Also within the grounds are the majestic Basilica and the statue of Don Pelayo, a hero of the Reconquista and a key figure in Asturian history.

LOS LAGOS

The glacial lakes of Enol and Ercina are located 11 km from Covadonga and are accessible via a steep and winding road. During certain times of the year, they are only accessible by bus. It is advisable to check visibility before climbing.

During the ascent, the landscape becomes spectacular, especially the Mirador de la Reina, from where, on clear days, you can see the sea and endless green mountains. The tranquility and natural beauty of the surroundings make the visit unforgettable.

Several hiking trails start from the lakes, such as Vega Redonda, Mirador de Ordiales, and Vega de Ario.

Nearby, in Colunga, you can visit the Jurassic Museum and the dinosaur footprints on Playa de la Griega.

28 km from Potes, in Fuente Dé, you will find the famous “Fuente Dé Cable Car” which, overcoming a difference in altitude of about 750 m, transports visitors to a height of 1834 m, from where they have a fantastic and impressive view.
